FTP error Failed to retrieve directory listing

  Print

Question) When I connect to FTP I get this error:

Command: LIST
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

Answer)

Using SSH Client such as Putty (Windows) or Console (MAC)

connect to your server, once connected type the following command:
nano /etc/pure-ftpd.conf

Scroll down (press page down on keyboard a few times) until you find this line:

#PassivePortRange 30000 50000

Remove the # to uncoment and enable Passive mode.

press CTRL + C and Y to save.

Go to WHM and restart FTP service

in WHM click configserver Firewall then click configuration, on both TCP_IN and UDP_IN add a commer after the last number show ie 2028, then type 30000:50000, (add a commer to the end) then scroll to the bottom and save, restart configserver to apply changes. Make sure the last line says that the service has started, when you click back it should show enabled and running.

this will fix your problem.
